Indianapolis – William Henry Murphy, age 73, passed away at 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late James and Isabelle (Goodwin) Murphy. William was born on March 15, 1948 in Bloomington, Indiana.
William was inducted into the United States Army on February 27, 1969 and served overseas during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on February 20, 1971 at Fort Dix in New Jersey. William received a Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service medal and Marksman M-14 badge while serving in the Army.
William was a public works laborer for Marion County Government for 15 years, retiring in 2009. He enjoyed camping at Hoosier National Forest in southern Indiana. William was fan of Notre Dame College football. He loved his cat "Remy" who passed away in 2021. He will always be remembered as a simple man who enjoyed being goofy and making others laugh.
William was united in marriage to Ida Tanael (Mendoza) Murphy and she passed away on November 2, 2017. He is survived by his loving son, Alex Tanael Murphy and his significant other, Jennifer. As well as his granddaughter, Kennedy Rose Murphy.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. The memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Danny Thomas officiating.
