William Pryor Laswell was born on August 16, 1943, to the late Samuel William Laswell and Flora Louise McDanell Laswell in Cincinnati, Ohio. His nicknames included “Willie,” “Pops,” and “Bill,” his family called him “Pryor.”
Pryor graduated in 1961 from Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati, OH and then attended barber college. He moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1991 to be close to his mother Flora, and brother Larry. He was working as a car salesman when he first moved to Indianapolis and met Pamela while selling a car to Chris, Pamela’s son. In the process Pryor obtained Pamela’s phone number, and they married on September 12, 1992 in Indianapolis, IN.
In 1994, Pam and Pryor opened Laswell’s Barber Shop in Speedway. Pryor was a talented barber, and his barber shop was nominated as one of the best in Indy. Pryor formerly owned multiple barber shops and worked in real estate in Ohio.
Pryor was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and over the years owned Harley-Davidsons, BMWs, Suzukis, and Spyders. He traveled with Pam in their RV often and enjoyed visiting RV parks in Las Vegas, Colorado, and Florida. He enjoyed watching football and spending time with his children and grandchildren, as well as dining out with family. Pryor loved animals and his pets throughout the years included Max, Chippy, Pee Wee, Lucky, Gerry, Tommy, and Chipette.
Pryor was generous, helpful, loving, and hilarious. Although he suffered from dementia for the last 8 years of his life, he remained kind and funny throughout his illness and joked and laughed often. Anytime someone asked him how he was doing, he would always reply “Well, I’m sober!”
William Pryor Laswell passed away peacefully at age 80 on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Pryor is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Pamela Louise Laswell; daughters, Tracy Laswell and Sayra White; stepsons, Christopher Heath and Kent Heath; Kent’s wife, Lisa; sister-in-law, Marsha Laswell; grandchildren: Jessica VonFeldt, Juli Williams, Joshua Hines, Emma White, Allen Heath, Andrew Heath, Kyle Heath, Morgan Heath, Leah Myers and her husband Collin, Logan Heath and Madison Heath; and great grandchild, Flynn Xavier Myers. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lawrence Keith Laswell. Pryor touched many lives throughout his time here on earth and will be deeply missed.
