William John Craig

William (Bill) John Craig passed away May 27, 2020 from complications of the COVID19 virus. He was 89 years old. Bill was born in Kincaid, Illinois to John Stobert Craig and Mamie Davis Craig on November 5, 1930. He also lived in Taylorville, Godfrey, Vandalia, and Marion, Illinois, as well as Elkhart IN.
Bill is survived by his sister, Ruth Alcantara, children, John (Jane) Craig; Nancy Schmidt; Rebecca (Duffy) Haremaker; Kathryn (Rick) Mueller; stepdaughters, Brenda (Jim) Denise; Kay (Evert) Miller; Linda (Ty) Rigdon; Rose Boudreau; Terry (Kerry) Flemming; MaryJo Cary; stepson, Brian (Tammy) Westendorf and niece Gina Alcantara. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren for a total of 67. He was enormously proud of his family and always said "look what your mother and I created"!
Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Craig, his parents, a son, Morgan Craig, Son-N Law, Gary Schmidt and 2 great great grandchildren, Hannah and Hailey Mueller. Also, stepdaughter, Cindy Robertson and stepson George Lessenberry.
Bill served his country by joining the Navy. His career included working in the mines, being a salesman and working in the parts department of companies in Elkhart Indiana. He was a Master Mason of the Scottish Rite for over 60 years as a Mason. He enjoyed volunteering to take severely sick children to the Shriners hospital in Chicago, IL for free medical treatment. He also worked as an usher at the Notre-Dame football games for several years, which he truly enjoyed.
Bill married Patricia Morgan in 1949, Inez Westendorf in 1969 and Mary Carey in 1984.
Memorials can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for children in his name. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
