Mrs. Virginia Dabney was born May 18, 1916 to the late Ella Wharton Tuggle and the late Henry Wharton in Trigg County, Kentucky. Virginia married Marion C. Dabney on November 25, 1930.
Virginia Dabney was a faithful member of Bethel Tabernacle Church for more than 70 years. She was baptized and received the Gift of the Holy Spirit under the pastorate of Elder Greer. Sister Dabney was a faithful and devoted usher until December of 1990. She was an active member of the church until her health failed her at the age of 99.
Sister Dabney had a very humble, warm, sweet and loving heart. She never complained and her kind nature was always present. She was known at Bethel Tabernacle as one of the "Golden Girls" which included Sister Nettie Harris and Sister Azzie Bobbitt. Some of her favorite things to do were collecting dolls (she had over 100), picking and eating dandelion greens, and telling childhood stories...and she loved nothing more than talking about her loving husband the late Marion Dabney, whom she cherished.
Sister Dabney shared a very special relationship with her "baby brother" Henry Wharton, Jr. whom she adored. They would spend hours on the phone talking and sharing. He would frequently visit her and they would spend quality time together.
The family would like to thank her friend and Sister in Christ, Azzie Bobbitt, with whom Virginia spent every Sunday, and who she came to live with when her health started to fail. Sister Bobbitt provided devoted care and love.
Sister Virginia Dabney departed this life on October 10, 2015. She leaves to cherish her memory her nephews Henry D. Wharton (Sharon), Andra L. Wharton and Kevin A. Wharton, devoted cousins Dorothy Smith and Naomi Giles and other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Marion C. Dabney, her brother Henry Wharton, Jr., sisters Lucy Gude and Addie Lee Wharton Redd.
