Virginia Kay Hughey, lovingly known to friends and family as Kay, passed away peacefully at her home in Camby, Indiana on February 11, 2025. Born on June 10, 1956 in Martinsville, Indiana, Kay was a beacon of light to all who knew her, cherished for her honest and soft-hearted nature.
Throughout her life, Kay worked various retail and factory jobs, showcasing her dedication and strong work ethic. Her educational journey took root at Martinsville High School, where the foundations of her spirited personality began to flourish. In the arms of love, she was united in marriage to her husband, Michael Leo "Mike" Hughey on December 31, 1980, an occasion that marked a profound partnership filled with laughter, companionship, and mutual support.
Kay had a multitude of passions that painted her life with joy. Her love for animals and children brought warmth into every room she entered. She was an enthusiastic follower of the Hallmark Channel, often seen caught up in the enchanting shows and movies that spoke to her heart. Kay found immense joy riding motorcycles with Mike, their excursions not just a hobby but a beautiful shared experience that deepened their bond. Together, they participated in the annual Miracle Ride for Riley Kid's, demonstrating their commitment to community and care for others.
In addition to these pursuits, Kay thrived in crafting, gardening, boating, and fishing, each activity reflecting her soft spirit and nurturing demeanor. Her family often joked that her favorite pastime was supervising Mike, a testament to her loving and playful nature.
Kay leaves behind a legacy rooted in love and connection. She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Hughey; sons: Chris Hughey and his wife, Maryann, and Jason Hughey; sister Kathy (Stevens) Summers; brothers: Randy Stevens and Ray Doss; grandchildren: Amanda Hughey, Michael Hughey and his wife, Kenzie, Taylor (Hughey) Hayes and her husband, Ricky, Jacob Hughey, and Adrienne Bush; great-grandchildren: Ayden Baker, Bronson Hughey, and Zaylee Littrell; brother-in-law, Kevin Hughey; and long-time, friend Danette Critser. Each of these relationships reflects the richness of her life, the laughter shared, and the love given.
Kay joins her mother, Carol Hillman; father, Carlos Stevens; and brother, Tim Stevens, in eternal rest, where we can imagine her surrounded by warmth and smiles, forever continuing the bonds she cherished.
A visitation will be held in her honor on February 24, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM, both at Newcomer Funeral Home, located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In mourning and remembrance, those who knew Kay can carry forward her legacy of kindness, spontaneity, and love, forever holding her memory close to their hearts. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, an everlasting embrace of the warmth she so freely.
