Indianapolis - Vesta Hamm Hinton, 85, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 8, 2019. She was born April 12, 1934 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Les and Gladys Nichols Hamm. She graduated from Childrens High School in Wynne, Arkansas. She moved to Indianapolis in 1953. Throughout her professional life, Ms. Vesta worked with several organizations including RCA, the United States Government and Wishard Hospital.
Ms. Vesta gave her life to Christ at a very early age. She was a God fearing woman for as long as most of her family can remember. She was a member of Trinity CME Church for many years. She joined in 1953, when services were being conducted in a little white house on a hill.
Ms. Vesta married Al Baxter in 1951. She married David Hinton in 1970. Ms. Vesta had a very loving heart. She lived to support her children and their children and was adored and respected by her family and friends.
Ms. Vesta was preceded in death by her sons, Mark Baxter and Al Baxter, Jr.; grandson; Terry L. Jones; husband, David Hinton; daughter, Jacqueline M. Baxter and son, Melvin B. Baxter. Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Stephen, Hosea, Jeffery and William Dion Baxter, Sr.; sisters: Linda, Patricia and Velma Hamm and Connie Barrett; brothers: Sam, Lester and Spencer Hamm; 16 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren.
Ms. Vesta's family will receive friends Friday, December 20, 2019, from 10 am – 12 pm, at Trinity CME Church, 2253 Dr. Andrew J. Brown Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46205. A celebration of her life will be conducted at 12 pm at the church. Interment will follow at Floral Park Cemetery.
