Vernon "Butch" Vanhorn, Sr.

Greenwood - Vernon “Butch” VanHorn, Sr., 84, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024. He was born August 28, 1939 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Gernard and Hester Lynch VanHorn. He was a graduate of Manual High School. He served his community as an optician from 1955 to his retirement in 2013. He was employed by Lenscrafters from 1978 – 2013.

Butch enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, camping and watching the Colts, the Pacers and IU, but more than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Butch was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Genevieve Lochard VanHorn and his grandson, Crayton Fortner, Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Peggy Robertson and her husband, Donald and Brenda Carlson and her husband, Steven; sons, Vernon VanHorn, Jr. and Richard VanHorn and his wife, Gail; siblings: Margaret Martin, Elden VanHorn, Marion VanHorn, Eugene VanHorn, Donald VanHorn, Herbert VanHorn and Gernard VanHorn, Jr.; grandchildren: Michael Fortner, Danita Fortner, Billy Collins, Jr., Brandon Collins, Shane Carlson, Stephanie Carlson (Seth), Jason VanHorn and Ari Robertson; great grandchildren: Patrick, Emily, Tyler, Erica, Lacy Michael, Tiara, Ciara, David and James; and many other loving family members and dear friends.
