Vaughn Harrison

November 11, 1944 — December 17, 2017

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Buz Harrison (aka: Vaughn Clay). Buz was born in Indianapolis on November 11, 1944. He lived for 40 years in University Heights, Indianapolis, and died peacefully at home on December 12, 2017. He was 73 years old.

He is predeceased by parents Vaughn Earl and Virginia Harrison also of University Heights, Carson Ave.

He is survived by his longtime friend, companion and spouse of 41 years, William (Bill) Paul Sanders. Also surviving is his sister, Paula (Dwight) Ferguson; brothers, Steve (Cecelia) Harrison and Roy Harrison. Sons include Christian and Richard (Carrie) Sanders of Ellisville MS. Grandchildren are grandson, Jordan Sanders and granddaughters Lindsey and Bailey Sanders. Sister in-law is Marsha (Larry) Hicks of Indianapolis. Nephews include Levi and Brandon Harrison, Timothy and Patrick Hicks. His nieces include Persia Ferguson, Shannon Schlegel and Debbie Bryant.

It must not be ignored Buz maintained deep fondness and love for his devoted puppies, dachshund, Dixie, and four chiweenies, Rosie, Sammie, Frankie, and Mollie. From the past, he shared his love for his toy collie mix Salty, poodle mix Peppy and Shiatzu mix, Buddy.

Buz graduated in 1963 from Southport High School and proved an accomplished musician and athlete. Soon after graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force and spent 6 years serving in California and Ankara, Turkey and rose to the rank of Sergeant.

He was a successful insurance agent for Prudential and also with his own independent insurance agency. In 1982, he went to work for the IUPUI campus switchboard as a cord board telephone operator and became a supervisor. He later transferred to IU/Riley Hospitals where he became a patient access/bed control coordinator from which he retired after 28 years of service. Unwilling to remain retired he became the transportation carrier coordinator for L H Express, Ameriplex-Indianapolis, during his final four years.

Simply stated Buz was an avid and incomparable collector of popular music with a vast collection of every genre and format (vinyl, 8-track, 78s, 45s, cassettes and cds) which he lived to listen to with others. One of his amazing successes was the cataloging of over 300,000+ of his song titles. He also enjoyed his large, carefully selected, DVD movie collection, especially the romantic ones. Think "Brokeback Mountain" and "Pretty Woman".
