Thomas Junior Mathus

INDIANAPOLIS – Thomas Junior "Tom" Mathus, age 77, passed away at 9:12 AM on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at his residence. He was born to the late Leslie Mathus and Dorothy Maddox on November 2, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tom was united in marriage on October 12, 1996 to Ruth Elaine Aikman in Indianapolis.

He graduated from George Washington High School in 1964 before he was drafted into the United States Army. Tom was inducted into the United States Army on September 23, 1965 in Indianapolis and was honorably discharged on September 22, 1967 in Fort Hood, Texas. Professionally, he worked as a machinist for 48 years at Bower's Envelopes. Tom was a member of the American Legion Post 34 for 10 years. He loved fishing and golfing in his free time.

He is survived by his loving son, Shane Thomas Mathus; his grandchildren, Alyssa Kirkham and Austin Mathus; and daughter-in-law, Carrie Mathus. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Ruth Elaine Mathus and his step-father, Earl Maddox.

Tom's friends and family may visit from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Chaplain Mike Mercer officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date at Chambersville Cemetery, 9 North County Line Road East, Spencer, Indiana 47460.
