Indianapolis – Terry Deer, 68, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017.
Mr. Deer was born June 29, 1949 in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from Southport High School in 1968. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served in Vietnam.
When his family described his work as a taxi driver, they lovingly noted that he excelled at his job because, in his opinion, he was the only person that could properly operate a motor vehicle. Last Friday, when his son, Shawn, was driving him to his daughter's house, he was still instructing him in the proper way to drive. But it wasn't just driving that he was the best at. Whether Mr. Deer was driving a car, a boat, fishing or just generally looking good, he had a humorous and endearing way of making sure that everyone around him knew that he was better at it than anyone else.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Deer and her significant other, Tarrence Bailey; sons, Shawn Deer and his wife, Jamie and Jacob Ross and his wife, Kimberly; granddaughters, Ashley, Alyssa, Alexis and Simone; grandsons, Reuben, Samuel and Levi; great granddaughter, Laila; sisters, Debbie Deer and Brenda Gibson; brother, Gary "Buddy" Deer; and many other loving family members and friends.
Mr. Deer's family will receive friends Tuesday, August 8, 2017, from 4:00 – 5:30 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A celebration of his life will follow at 5:30 pm with Pastor Steve Agal officiating.
