TERESA LYNN TIBBS, 57, passed on Sunday, April 2, 2023 peacefully at her home after a short illness. Teresa was born October 18, 1965 in Indianapolis, IN. She is survived by Renee Mueller, her Life Partner of nearly 34 years. They were legally married on June 27, 2014.
Teresa had attended 109, 108, and Northwest High School. Yet, she conquered her greatest fear by receiving her Core 40 Diploma and was a Certified Production Technician in Safety from the Excel Center in Noblesville, IN on June 13, 2019.
She had also worked at Sam's Distribution Center in Shipping/Receiving located in Indianapolis, IN. Teresa worked at Jenn-air/Maytag, until the plant closure in 1996. She was medically retired from Keihin IPT located in Greenfield, IN., due to Multiple Sclerosis.
Teresa grew up Roller skating & was a member of the Speed Skating team. She loved music, dancing, attending concerts & shows, going to Tibbs Drive-in, Pride Month, Road Trips, and the outdoors. She enjoyed sporting events, especially the Minnesota Vikings, Golden Gophers, Tennessee Lady Vols and the Indiana Fever basketball games.
Teresa was a MS Survivor! As a Team Captain she organized several MS Walks and was always an Advocate for People with Disabilities. She also enjoyed DoorDashing, hanging out at the shop with Renee, and Airbrushing Feather clips.
Most of all, she was a Proud US Marine Corps wife, and a Pioneer of LGBT Rights; for Same-sex Marriage and Veterans. She attended the March on Washington in 1993 & 2000, and for nearly the past 10 years has been a Member of American Veterans for Equal Rights.
Survivors include her wife, Renee C. Mueller; Sisters - June (Coffman) Chenoweth & John of Plainfield, IN, and Terry (Tibbs) Ostermyer & Bill of New Palestine IN. Nephews- James & Brian Covert. Nieces - Randi (Chelf) Ireland, Brigette Chenoweth and Melissa & Amber Ostermyer. Cousins - Hilda (Tarr) Goodman, Kim Brown, Jerry Blankenship, Jack Dillard and Dawn (Dillard) Clark. Best Friends - Shawn Moreau-Murphy and Chris Sturm.
Teresa was preceded in death by her Father- E. Kenneth Tibbs, her Mother - Nancy (Coffman) Peel, her Sisters Patricia Covert, and Cheri Coffman, and Cousins Tommy & Gary Blankenship.
Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home located at 925 Hanna Ave., Indianapolis, IN from 11am - 1pm, with a Memorial Service beginning at 1pm.
Teresa L. Tibbs will be the first, wife of a Female Marine, to have her Interment of Ashes at the Columbarium, awaiting the time that Renee C. Mueller will join her, once again. Chapel Service and Graveside will begin at 2:30 pm on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Crown Hill National Veterans Cemetery Annex located at 725 W. 42nd St., Indianapolis, IN 46208.
