Indianapolis – Steven Douglas Dickey, Sr., 76, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 19, 2021. He was born August 2, 1944 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Noble and Cleo Burton Dickey. He was employed in the retail grocery industry where he served as a grocer merchandiser.
Steven was a sports fanatic. He loved watching sports, particularly the Indianapolis Colts, but he also enjoyed participating in local sports. He served as a coach and mentor to many throughout the years. He was an avid golfer. He also served as a softball umpire for over 50 years. He was inducted into the ASA Hall of Fame in 2009. Additionally, he enjoyed hosting and/or participating in family card night, decorating for the holidays, spending time with his children and grandchildren and telling stories of days gone by. He was a KING of conversation.
Steven was preceded in death by his daughters, Vickie Jolly and Jeri Rakes and his brother, David Bracken. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Dickey; daughters: Stacy Craft (Tonya), Shelly Savage (Dan) and Shawn Smith; sons: Bill Estes (Michal), Vince Blevins (Michele), David Craft and Bart Jolly; sister, Dolores Firkins; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; beloved dog, Moses; and many other loving family members and dear friends.
Steven's family will receive friends Tuesday, May 25, 2021, from 11 am – 1 pm at Liberty Baptist Church, 10450 East County Road 450 North, Indianapolis, IN 46234. A celebration of his life will be conducted at 1 pm at the church. A committal service will follow at Floral Park Cemetery, 425 North Holt Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
