Sheryl L. Mayes

Sheryl Lynn Pennington Mayes, 59, gained her wings July 24th, 2023.

Sheryl was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 2nd, 1963 the daughter of Lenneth and Norma Jean (Loyd) Pennington.

Her joy and truly unconditional love radiated throughout her life and was felt by her friends, family, and community. She had a passion for gardening, crafting, and her family, among other things. She poured her heart into everything she did, whether it was being devoted to her family or decorating the front porch. She made an impact on this world, not only in our hearts, but as a community leader who organized planting trees, putting up flags, and beautifying our city. That DIY attitude carried over into her home with her husband, making their yard a garden and habitat for wildlife to thrive. Sheryl will be deeply missed, though we can take comfort in knowing her suffering has ended and she is now with her parents and loved ones who have passed before her.

Sheryl is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Jack Mayes; 2 brothers, Jeff Pennington (Nikola) and Waymond Loyd (Vicky); 2 daughters, Aubrey and Olivia, son in law, Jacob Maschmeyer; and grandson, Wesley Maschmeyer.
Sheryl is preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral celebrating Sheryl's life will take place at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 925 E. Hanna Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46227 with Chaplain Rob Mifflin officiating. A visitation for family and friends will held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will follow the funeral on Thursday at New Crown Cemetery in Indianapolis.
