Roger A. Steward, age 78 of Indianapolis, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born August 25, 1944 in Indianapolis, the son of William Jay and Huldah (Barber) Steward. Roger was a 1961 graduate of Benjamin Davis High School. He had the desire to be a hard worker at a young age, by working a paper route and building cabinets at the young age of 14. He then started his own business, Steward Boarman Kitchens in 1985. He could make anything out of wood and was known to create some of the most amazing custom cabinets. Roger was truly talented at building things and even built two homes.
When Roger wasn't working and creating works of art, he enjoyed camping, boating and being outdoors. He was a man of many talents that included photography, flying a plane and telling the best jokes. Roger had a great sense of humor with the ability to make everyone laugh, and he was full of "dad jokes". He also liked to play cards, especially euchre and he liked to go roller-skating. More than anything, Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Roger is survived by his wife, Mary Steward; 3 children, Don (wife Jill) Steward, Debbie (husband Alan) Johnson and Elliott Steward; 5 step-children, Amy LaFara, Jeremy (wife Lynn) LaFara, Timothy (with Cynthia) LaFara, Suzanne Esterline and Andrew LaFara; sister, Kay (husband Phil) Farb; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marla Ann Cunningham.

Hanna Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46227 with son in law, Howard Esterline officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM prior to the service on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the funeral home.
