Robert Leonard Spurgeon

Indianapolis - Robert Leonard "Bob" Spurgeon, 77, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 30, 2020. He was born June 30, 1943 in Indianapolis to the late William and Garnet Fuller Spurgeon. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the Indiana National Guard. He retired from Allison Transmission where he served as a lathe operator for over 30 years.

Bob's family described him as a people person, with a great sense of humor, who loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed Western movies, particularly those starring John Wayne. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching sports. He was glued to the TV during March Madness and the World Series.

Bob played on a men's softball team until he was 50 years old. He coached a girls' team and was an assistant coach for a boys' team. He loved spending time with children. Additionally, he volunteered at Beech Grove Meadows and other local nursing homes where he led the residents in worship through gospel music for over 27 years.
Bob will be remembered as a loving and protective husband, father and grandfather. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior September 9, 1985. He became a member of Faith Assembly of God in 1987.

Bob was preceded in death by his father William Avard Spurgeon; mother, Garnet Elizabeth Fuller Spurgeon; sisters, Hilda Goff and Maryemma Williams; and brothers, Carl and Harold Spurgeon. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Rebecca "Becky" Spurgeon; daughter, Tanya Jarvis and her husband, David; grandson, Christopher Isenberg; and many other loving family members and dear friends.

Bob's family will receive friends Friday, October 9, 2020, from 3 – 7 pm at Faith Assembly of God, 186 Royal Road, Beech Grove, IN 46107. A celebration of his life will follow Saturday, October 10, 2020, at 11 am at the church. Interment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229
