Robert A. Medsker, age 89 of Indianapolis passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born May 6, 1934 in Indianapolis the son of Floyd Raymond and Helen (Reddick) Medsker. Robert attended Manual High School and in 1953 he enlisted to serve in the United States Army. While in the Army from 1953 to 1955, he was a paratrooper which he loved very much. After serving in the military, he came home to marry the love of his life, Eunice Rutherford on October 12, 1956 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Robert owned and operated his boating business, Interstate Marine for many years. He was a member of the American Legion, and was a very involved member of the Freemasons, and was a past Monarch of the Sahara Groto. Robert enjoyed being outdoors boating, fishing and camping. He also liked to listen to music, dance and read. More than anything, Robert will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eunice Medsker; 2 daughters, Deanna (wife Chris) Medsker-Paulsen and Cheryl (husband Philip) Taylor; son, Scott (wife Michelle) Medsker; 6 siblings, Ruth Fairfield, Randy Medsker, Ronnie Medsker, Charlotte Folkening, Margie Medsker and Betty Dillard; 5 grandchildren, Adrienne Taylor, Luke Taylor, Robert Medsker, Haley Medsker and Tammy Gutierrez; and 2 special grand dogs, Dozer Paulsen and Tigger Taylor.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Lois Smith and Dorothy Kingrey; and 2 brothers, Floyd "Bill" Medsker and James Medsker.
A funeral service celebrating Robert's life will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 925 E. Hanna Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46227. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home on Friday, May 26, 2023. Burial will follow the funeral at Greenwood Cemetery, 620 West Main Street, Greenwood, IN 46142. Military honors by the U.S. Army and Indianapolis Metropolitan Military Honor Guard will take place at the cemetery.
