Indianapolis – Robert Lee Kelso, 62, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 in an unfortunate car accident on East Street and Powell in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on January 4, 1959 to Arthur Lee and Norma (Willis) Kelso at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana.
Robert graduated from Emmerich Manual High School, class of 1979. He was united in marriage on January 6, 1979 to Rosetta Nadine Kennedy in Indianapolis, Indiana. Robert was inducted into the United States Army on January 30, 1979 in Indianapolis, Indiana and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before he was honorably discharged on March 22, 1985 at Fort Dix in New Jersey. He worked several jobs including ATA Airlines and when the hub closed he went to work as a Customer Host at Walmart, retiring on January 1, 2021. Robert enjoyed reading and playing video games. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Rosetta Nadine (Kennedy) Kelso; his loving children, John Kelso and his wife Tina, Robert Kelso Jr. and Virginia Mattocks and her husband Mike; his father, Arthur Kelso and his wife Kay and his mother, Norma (Willis) Kelso; his grandchildren, Dakota Kelso, Zechariah Mattocks, Nathaniel Mattocks, Tavi Mattocks, Jason Napier and Amber Napier; his siblings, Willie Kelso and Brenda Guffey; and his aunt, Vickie Peterson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ozzie and Verniece Kelso and Raymond and Hazel Willis and his aunt, Betty (Willis) Collyear Dammeyer.
Friends may visit Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. by Reverend Gale Stutz with military honors. For the health and safety of all guest attending, face masks are required. Interment will follow in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road, Madison, Indiana with full military honors by Post No. 9 of the American Legion.
