Robert Owen Chappell

Indianapolis - Robert Owen Chappell, 91, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019. The youngest of 12 children, Mr. Chappell was born September 14, 1927 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Amber and Cordi Crabtree Chappell. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy where he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Mr. Chappell once told his daughter that his favorite job he ever had was working as a signalman for the B&O Railroad. Additionally, he worked for Bridgeport Brass as a crane operator before going to work for Western Electric, where he was employed for over 30 years. In his free time, he loved fishing and watching westerns.

Mr. Chappell is survived by his beloved wife of over 68 years, Joretta Chappell; daughter, Jane Chappell; son, Robert Chappell; and many other loving family members and friends.

Mr. Chappell's family will receive friends Tuesday, February 26, 2019, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A celebration of his life will follow at 12 p.m. with military honors performed by members of the United States Navy Honor Guard. Interment will be conducted privately.
