Robert Edward Alloway, fondly known as Bob, passed away on March 18, 2025 at the age of 80, in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was born on October 10, 1944. He was an esteemed member of his community and a beloved family man. Bob shared 58 years of marriage with his loving wife, Susan Alloway, a bond that was the cornerstone of his life.

Bob dedicated twenty years of his professional life as a mechanic for Indianapolis Public Schools, a role that contributed positively to the educational opportunities of many teachers and students while also building valuable skills he would use in many other facets of his life. His commitment to service extended beyond professional obligations; he proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years, stationed in both Germany and Washington, D.C., a testament to his dedication and strong sense of duty.

Outside of work, Bob was a man of diverse interests and passions. He was an avid genealogist and an active member of the Southport Historical Society, displaying an enduring curiosity about his family’s history and heritage. His hands were rarely still – whether fixing cars, lawn mowers or tractors for family and friends, improving the house, or tending his garden, Bob found fulfillment in building and nurturing the world around him, and in sharing these interests with friends and family alike who were inspired by his example.

A true outdoorsman, he led many students in building a nature lab at his son’s school Raymond Brandes School #65, sparking curiosity and wonder in young minds. He treasured trips to state parks with his family, capturing the beauty of nature through photography and videography.

He cherished the time spent with his sons, sharing activities such as Scouting, camping, model rocketry and bike racing, and teaching them many life lessons along the way such as the importance of learning new things, hard work, determination, and the value of helping others.

Those who knew Bob would describe him as a great father who loved children dearly. He was always willing to help the kids in the neighborhood, displaying kindness and compassion not only to them but also to the elderly. His generous spirit left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to cross his path.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Susan J. Alloway; his sons, D. Scott (Leanne) Alloway and Joseph (Helen) Alloway; and his adoring granddaughter, Jessica Alloway, alongside his grandson, Desmond Alloway, and his great-grandson, Roman Parrish. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Thomas (Anne) Alloway. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susie Alloway, and his parents, Warder and Patricia Alloway.
