Richard Lee Summitt, born on October 20, 1951, in Beech Grove, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many through his kind spirit and cherished memories.
Richard dedicated a significant portion of his life to his family and career. He proudly served in the United States Navy. He later retired from Vigilante MC, where he had made numerous friends throughout the years. His legacy continues through his loving wife, Becky Summitt, whom he married on May 8, 1998, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Together, they created a nurturing environment filled with love and laughter.
Richard was a doting father to Jack Vest, Chazaty Vest, Cole Summitt, and Dalton Summitt. He took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Destiny Allen, Shawn Allen, Jolee Hubbard, Jalen Vest, and Tanikka Sanders, along with one great-grandchild, Rebeckah Allen. Three girls in the family held special places in his heart, creatively given the nicknames Doll Face, Mad Max, and his beloved Tom Boy Baby Doll, who gave him the nickname of Papaw Goofy in return.
Richard had a passion for riding motorcycles and enjoyed spending time in the garage working on them. Additionally, he enjoyed collecting movies, coins, and baseball cards. Above all, Richard's family was the center of his world. He made wonderful memories with his grandchildren by taking them on motorcycle rides when they were young, including moments with a great nephew shortly after his birth. He also made memories with his oldest grandson taking him for coffee at WC when he was just five years old.
He is survived by his loving siblings Carol Kieninger, Alberta Vititoe, and Emma Summitt, alongside a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends who felt more like family. Richard was preceded in death by his brothers Mike Summitt and Ronald Summitt, as well as his parents, James Albert Summitt and Laura Mary Summitt.
In honor of Richard, a Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date, details to be announced.
Richard Lee Summitt will be remembered not just for his warm heart but also for the joy he brought to the lives of others. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
