Richard G. "Dick" Sargeant, age 79 of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at his home. He was born September 15, 1943 in Lebanon, Ohio to Hayner and Effie "Jean" (Rockhold) Sargeant. Dick was a 1961 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School and following graduation he served in the United States Army. He served as an Airborne Ranger in the Army during Vietnam. Dick married the love of his life Deborah L. Boissier on October 2, 1982 in Indianapolis. All of Dick's working profession he served others as an outstanding contractor. He ran his own construction business for over 35 years and was known as the handyman who could fix literally anything.
He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, being out on the water and even liked to rock climb. If it had to do with being outside, you could always count Dick in. He was an amazing Scout Leader that so many looked up to and admired through the years. Dick and Debbie liked to travel, go on cruises and experience all that they could. They went to many different states and even traveled overseas. Their all time most memorable place to visit was Rome. In his younger years, Dick was even an amateur boxer. Dick was an excellent artist and everything he drew or made was incredibly detailed. More than anything, Dick was an amazing husband, father and grandfather and he took great pride in providing for his family.
Dick is survived by his wife, Deborah L. "Debbie" Sargeant; 3 children, Joe (wife Amie) Sargeant, Elizabeth Cramer and Richard (wife Melissa) Sargeant, Jr.; 7 grandchildren, James Sargeant, Julina Sargeant, Kamden Perry, Braxston Perry, Coralie Sargeant, Zach Cramer and Christiana Cramer; 4 siblings, Sandra Smith-Gillum, Jim Smith, David Smith and Jeff Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Dick is preceded in death by his father, Hayner Sargeant; mother, Effie "Jean" Smith; and 2 siblings, Jack Sargeant and Ellie Smith-Miller.
Dick's wishes were to be cremated. There will be a memorial service honoring Dick's life on October 8, 2022 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM at Southview Wesleyan Church 4700 Shelbyville Road, Indianapolis. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Southview Wesleyan Church. Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions in Indianapolis is honored to handle Dick's arrangements.
