Richard Lue Reed

INDIANAPOLIS – Richard Lue Reed, 86, passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Altenheim Health & Living in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born to the late Delephine Bobishop and Florence (Stevey) Reed on March 13, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 17, 1955 while in Los Angeles, California and rose through the ranks to become Corporal on May 1, 1957. While honorably serving his country, Richard received his GED and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Richard was honorably discharged from active duty on August 16, 1958 in San Bernardino, California and transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve and Recruitment District in San Francisco, California for an additional three years.

He was united in marriage on September 29, 1967 to the love of his life, Norma Jean Calvert in Indianapolis, Indiana. Richard's hobbies included American Sign Language and music. He loved gospel music and enjoyed attending family gatherings. Richard worked as a Chef in the food industry for many years.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Reed and they are now reunited in heaven. Richard is survived by his step-children: Bonita Durham, Winnie Durham Boling, Anthony (wife Earleen Grinager) Durham and Jeff (wife Laurie) Durham; as well as his grandchildren: Angela Bowman, Isaac Durham, Spencer Durham, Shawn Bland, Jerry Balay and Cindy Durham Adkins.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Bunnell Cemetery, 1175 North County Road 200 West, Frankfort, Indiana 46041 with Chaplain Wayne Grumbling officiating.
