Richard Donald Mitchell

Richard Donald Mitchell, age 79 of Indianapolis passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023 in Indianapolis. He was born July 24, 1943 in Indianapolis the son of Frank and Aline (Smith) Mitchell. Richard attended Harry E. Wood High School in Indianapolis. On February 18, 1961 in Indianapolis, Richard married the love of his life Sherrill Kemper and they spent many years happy marriage together until she passed away. He worked for many years as a truck driver for multiple companies and lastly worked for Royal Foods until he retired. Richard liked to go bowling, play basketball, play horseshoes and go to horse races. His favorite artist of all time was Elvis Presley. Richard will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Richard is survived by 2 children, Rhea Dawn McCombs and Richard D. (wife Sue) Mitchell, II; 3 grandchildren, Melissa D. (husband Keith) Twitty, Danielle L. (husband Adam) Davis and Jose Sanchez; great-grandchildren, Aidan D. McCormack, Elliot C. McCombs, Izabella E. Davis, Aurora D. Davis, Marley Twitty and Shana Sanchez; and life-long friends, Jimbo Strong, Buddy Ditchley and numerous others.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Sherrill Mitchell.

A memorial service honoring Richard's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 925 E. Hanna Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46227. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
