Greenwood - Raymond Keith Sorrell, 76, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Sorrell was born March 14, 1942 in Brazil, IN. A graduate of Indianapolis' Washington High School, he attended Rose-Hulman and Indiana State University. He started his career at a glass factory in Indianapolis, where he packed bottles into shipping boxes. He quickly worked his way up to the comptroller position for two different glass companies. Around 1978 he moved to Chesty Foods in Terre Haute (as Comptroller) and was eventually a Vice President for Borden Foods. He enjoyed travel, and fondly recalled a trip to California with friends before he was married, then family trips with his former wife, Carole, and sons Richard and Jonathan to New York City, Wyoming and Colorado, Minnesota, and Florida. Later in life he got to travel to Hawaii, Spain, France, Morocco, and Mexico. He also enjoyed baseball, horse racing (he and his brother, Robert, owned two race horses for a period of time), visiting casinos, and good food. He did not enjoy winter.
But most of all Mr. Sorrell loved his family. He is survived by his sons, Richard Sorrell and his wife, Roberta and Jonathan Sorrell and his wife, Linda, along with 3 granddaughters and 3 grandsons. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Rondeau; brother, Robert Sorrell; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Margaret Sorrell, as well as his brother, Marvin and sister, Rita.
A committal service will be conducted Friday, April 20, 2018, at 2:30 pm at Washington Park North Cemetery, 2702 Kessler Boulevard West Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46228. Mr. Sorrell battled both lymphoma and lung cancer, and in lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Riley Hospital for Children.
