Indianapolis - Randell Darwin Johnson, 65, was embraced by his Heavenly Father in love and light Thursday, May 6, 2021. He was born February 3, 1956 in Muncie, IN to Myrna Wise Johnson and the late Lyle Johnson. He was a 1974 graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, IN. Additionally, he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in business from the Indiana Institute of Technology. He worked with the sales teams at various companies, primarily in the steel industry.
Randy had a fondness for the outdoors. Whether it was taking camping trips, fishing, target shooting or simply sitting around a campfire telling one of his many stories, Randy thoroughly enjoyed sharing these moments with his friends and loved ones. He was proud to be a second-degree black belt in Japanese Jiu Jitsu. One of his greatest strengths was that of caregiver and protector, which helped him shine brightly in times of crisis.
Randy was also heavily involved with many craftsman projects. He was a frequent moviegoer, who may (or may not) have snuck in Hot Tamales and Good & Plenty's to snack on. He also had a passion for music and cranking it up on his ever-changing stereo equipment. He also had a passion for cooking; ribs and chili were his specialities. He had a powerful love for the Lord throughout his life, the result of a solid, Biblical foundation laid by his parents. Above all, he was a loving father and grandfather, who would pull you in for a huge hug and tell you how much he loved you.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Johnson. He is survived by his daughters, Christine "Chrissie" Mendenhall and her husband, Matt, and Suzanne "Suzie" Miles and her husband, Nathanael; son, Matthew "Matt" Johnson and his significant other, Jen; mother, Myrna Johnson; sisters, Deborah Hazelbaker and her husband, Larry, and Cheryl Hustedt and her husband, Rick; grandchildren: Harper, Hannah and Everett; and many other beloved family members and dear friends.
Randy's family will receive friends Wednesday, May 12, 2021, from 11 am – 1 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
