Phillip E. Hutchinson, 81, of Acton, passed away on February 25, 2019. Phillip was born on February 12, 1938 in Beech Grove to Russell and Aletha (Johnston) Hutchinson both of whom precede him in death.
Phillip loved spending time with his family very much. Music was a major part of his life and he was very active in the church choir. Phillip met Kathy doing chorus work for Footlight Musicals during the King and I, got engaged during the Unsinkable Molly Brown, and went back for their last show with Footlight in Brigadoon. Phillip and Kathy enjoyed many years operating a Karaoke show that also brought them many close friendships. He loved to be in his garden planting many varieties of plants and flowers. He would take trips on his golf cart to survey his garden.
Phillip graduated from Clark school in 1956. He attended Earlham College and then joined the United States Army ASA in Germany until his honorable discharge. Phillip was the President of Premier Hybrid Seed Corn Company and a member of the American Seed Trade Association. He was a lifelong member of Southminster Presbyterian Church and a deacon for many years, a member of the Acton Cemetery Board, and a Trustee for Clark Township Advisory Board.
Phillip is survived by his wife of 53 years: Kathleen L. (Schell) Hutchinson; children and their spouses: Michael E. & Sherry Hutchinson; James R. Hutchinson; Elaine L. (Hutchinson) & Chris Clegg; grandchildren: Nicholas, Spencer, Emma, Landon; siblings and their spouses: Tom Hutchinson, Linda App, Susie & Jim Miller, Janet Ingle, Claire Brown, Richard & Marsha Hutchinson and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 10 A.M. until his funeral service at 12 P.M. at Southminster Presbyterian Church located at 9950 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46239-0008. Interment will follow at Acton Cemetery.
