Patricia A. Payne, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away on September 21, 2018. On October 5, 1933 she was born to Earl and Garnet (Roger) Good in Lebanon.
Pat graduated from Jefferson High School and then went on to Ball State University. She then began her career as a teacher in New Market Elementary and then moved to Coal Creek Central; Pat taught 2nd grade and then moved to the Art Department until retiring to work on the farm full time. Pat was a member of Southport United Methodist Church, the Indiana Calligraphy Guild, Indianapolis Art League, she participated in 3 years at the Academy for Spiritual Formation, Helped begin Central and Southern Indiana Emmaus Communities, established Silent Retreat in Southern Indiana Conference United Methodist Women, facilitated annual retreats for the same Local United Methodist Women for more than 10 years in Shelbyville and Rushville, She held the office President for the United Methodist Women of the Southern Indiana Conference from 1991-1995. She served at the St. Benedict's Monetary as an Oblate. Pat mentored many other women learning leadership roles and was a very strong encourager of many people. Her warm smiles always brighten your day.
Pat is survived by her children: Victor Payne, Valerie Smith, Vincent Payne, Sondra Newman; grandchildren: Felica Nicholson, Cory Smith, Joshua Smith, Jessica Smith, Machaelie Souza; 5 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husband: James Frederick Payne whom died in 2012.
Her Memorial Service will be conducted on Oct 13, 2018 at 11 A.M. at Newcomer - Indianapolis Chapel, 925 E. Hanna Ave., IN 46227 with visitation being from 9 A.M. until her service.
