Norma Jean Spencer

September 23, 1929 — December 27, 2021

Norma Jean Spencer, age 92, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on the morning of December 27, 2021. Norma was born in Indianapolis on September 23, 1929, she was the daughter to the late Henry and Sylvia (McKahan) Kelley. On December 31, 1949, Norma married, the love of her life, Thomas R. Spencer who passed away on January 27, 1991, after 42 beautiful years of marriage.

Since she was 14 years old, Norma had a tireless work ethic. For over 33 years, she was employed in the account receivables department of then Blue Cross and Blue Shield, retiring in 1992. She then went on to have another full 25-year career as being a member of the local Walmart team. She actually moved closer to Walmart so she could walk to work every day because she loved her daily walks.

What free time she had, Norma would spend hours reading her mystery novels, she especially loved reading the works of her favorite author, Mary Higgins Clark. In addition to reading, she kept her mind sharp by working her daily crossword puzzles. She was also a huge sports fan and enjoyed following her favorite teams, Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame football and her Indianapolis Colts.

Norma's true passion in life was her family. Her home is where everyone, including the neighborhood children, would gravitate to share dinners and to have sleep-overs. She loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports and never missed a game. In the fall season, she would take her grandchildren to the apple orchards. Later in life, she and her granddaughter, Chrissy, would spend hours exploring and reading books at the Fountain Square Library. Norma was her children's biggest fan and supporter and always told them "you can do anything you want, if your put your mind to it."

Norma leaves behind a living legacy consisting of her son, Patrick (Debbie) Spencer of Indianapolis; daughter, Suzanne (Brian) Snoddy of Indianapolis; granddaughters, Tori (Dylan) Taylor Of Leander, TX, Cassie Spencer of Indianapolis; Chrissy (Beckie) Snoddy of Indianapolis and Susan (Shalom) Bochner of Berkeley, CA; great-grandsons, Duke Taylor, Aiden Taylor, Ethan Anderson, Nitzan Bochner, Yuval Bochner, Caiden Terry, Cole Terry and Cye Terry; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
