Mildred Lee Campbell

December 15, 1933 — January 24, 2024

Mildred Lee Campbell, passed peacefully into her eternal home with Christ her Savior in glory surrounded by her family, on January 24, 2024. A native of Kentucky, Mildred always brought love and happiness to her large family and every one she met through her 90 joyful years of life.

Born on December 15, 1933 to Leeman and Beatrice Ellen Mefford, Mildred spent her early years in the rolling hills of her beloved birthplace of Slope Holler in Harlan County, Kentucky. Mildred as oldest of 11 children helped raise many of her nine siblings by showing her great love and strength learned from her dear coal miner father and dedicated Christian mother.

Along with her husband William Murray Campbell, Mildred would make a home in Indianapolis, IN, where they raised their 9 children, of whom she was most proud. Mildred taught her children how to enjoy life by brightening up every moment through her continual singing, dancing, storytelling and laughter, a gift that she would go on to share with extra measure with her 106 adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren. The contagious spirit of joy that Mildred brought to all was second only to her most prominent trait of unconditional love, which was unfailing in any situation her family would face, and open to any friend or stranger in need. If any one of her well-loved family required her warmth, they could find Mildred enjoying her unlimited collection of family photos displayed in her home, or treasure hunting at the local thrift store.

Mildred is preceded in death by husband William Murray Campbell; children: Theodore Julian Campbell, Madonna Kay Campbell-Conti; grandchildren: Dennis Ray Hawkins, Terry Wayne Campbell Jr, Joshua Lee Campbell; parents: Leeman and Beatrice Ellen Mefford; siblings: John Dee, Joyce Faye, Sylvester, Barbara Jean, Billy Ray, Wanda Sue, Roger Dale.
