Michael J. Byrd age 75, of Mooresville, passed away June 11, 2018 at his home. Mike was born April 13, 1943, in Mitchell, the son of Howard and Daisy Byrd.
Mike joined the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War on the USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier. He was part of the recovery mission for the Apollo Space Program. He worked as a truck driver for Lawyer Truck Company, USF Holland Trucking Company. He served his community for over 20 years as a volunteer fire fighter with the Madison Township Fire Department. He was on the Morgan County Zoning Board and Republican Precinct Committeeman.
Survivors include his twin sons and their wives: Joseph & Rita Byrd, Jeff & Sharon Byrd; siblings and their spouses: Richard & Connie Byrd, Donna & Danny Dabbs, Danny & Gwen Byrd; grandchildren: Dennis & Tiara, Bransom, Jimmy, Carrie, Brandie, Brandon, Jenny May, Brittany, Dylan, Allie & Kaymen, Hailey; great-grandchildren: Chandler, Iva, Rachel, Reece, Maxwell, Stetson, Taylor, JJ, Alexas, Dallas, Michael and a host of other family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents: Howard & Daisy (Burton) Byrd; wife of 25 years: Virginia (Lynn) Byrd; step-sons: Donnie Lee, Cliff Lee, Charlie Lee, Billy Lee and Wayne Lee.
Funeral Service will be 12:00 pm Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Newcomer - Indianapolis Chapel, 925 E. Hanna Ave., 46227. Visitation will be 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Burial will follow be at Friendship Park Cemetery in Paragon.
