Mary E. Veerkamp

November 23, 1942 — March 18, 2025

Indianapolis

Mary E. Veerkamp, born on November 23, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, in her hometown. Throughout her life, Mary exemplified strength, empathy, and humor, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew her.

Mary embarked upon her professional journey after graduating from Scecina Memorial High School in 1960 and from Indiana Business School in 1962. She served admirably as a salesperson at Cardinal Container from 1978 to 1981 and later at Belle Fibre from 1981 until 2004, where she was known for her witty and engaging personality. And won many awards as a top salesperson.

Mary was more than her professional accomplishments; she had a flair for life itself. A lover of fashion, she adored getting her hair and nails done and had a distinguished taste in stylish clothes, jewelry, shoes, and purses. Her passions extended beyond the world of fashion. Game shows captivated her attention, and she cherished moments spent playing cards with loved ones, as well as participating in celebrations and gatherings and going to casinos.

An enthusiastic participant in various activities, Mary enjoyed golfing, bowling, and was a member of the Maple Creek Golf Club where she won the Women's Best Golfer Award twice. In her younger years, she loved diving on the MirMar Swim Club diving team and also found joy in playing kickball. These interests reflected her vibrant personality and zest for life.

Family was the cornerstone of Mary's existence. She held a special place in her heart for her beloved husband, Raymond E. Veerkamp. Together, since they were 16, they built a life filled with love and laughter. Mary is survived by her dedicated husband, Raymond; dayghter, Sheryl Veerkamp Owens and her husband, Jeff; and son,  C. Scott Veerkamp and his wife, Judy. She found immense joy in being a grandmother to Jake Owens, Zack Owens, Devon Veerkamp, Kali Owens, Hannah Veerkamp Law, Austin Law, and Matthew Veerkamp, and a great-grandmother to Jaylah Schrader, Sage Owens, Addie Law, Jayce Long, and Otto Owens. Each of them illuminated her world, and her love for them was profound and unwavering.

Mary was also blessed with strong ties to her siblings, including Linda Wyskicall and her husband Mike, Sharon Fitzgerald and her husband Pat, Ron Doyle and his wife Jeannie, and Dave Doyle and his wife, Annie. They shared countless memories and experiences that enriched her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Onis and Marcella Wagner Doyle, and her brother Bernie Doyle and his wife, Shirley. Each member of her family, both living and departed, shaped the remarkable woman she became.

Mary E. Veerkamp's spirit will be fondly remembered by all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy lives on in the love she spread, the laughter she shared, and the countless memories made with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed and forever cherished.

Her family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Hanna, his nurse Julie, and the entire team at IU Cancer Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in Mary's memory, to the American Cancer Society.
