Indianapolis - Mary Lou Smith, 93, beloved mother and grandmother, fell asleep on earth and awoke in Heaven on Friday, January 8, 2021. She was born July 26, 1927 in Indianapolis to the late John and Eva Livingston Reynolds. She was one of five children. After her mother's death when Mary was young, the family was separated and Mary was raised by an aunt.
IN 1945 she married William F. Smith. The Smiths lived on an 11 acre farm on Edgewood Avenue with their six children. It was a welcoming place where family, friends and neighbors were always welcome and often stopped by to visit. William and Mary were married for 59 years until his death in 2004.
Mary loved flowers and lovingly tended her gardens until she moved from her house in 2019. She also enjoyed going to garage sales, watching old movies (especially musicals and westerns), listening to country music and reading romance novels.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eva Livingston Reynolds; husband, William F. Smith; daughter, Wanda K. Walker; son, Jerald A. Smith; sisters, JoAnn Gourley and Marie Hittle Anderson; and brothers John Reynolds and Vernon Reynolds.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons: Thomas M. Smith and his wife, Patty, William Robert Smith and his wife, Janet, Dennis L. Smith and his wife, Susie and Richard S. Smith and his wife, Debra; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
