Marissa Kay Temple

Beech Grove - Marissa Kay Temple, 34, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023. She was born June 2, 1989 in Indianapolis to LaVonda Temple and John VanDeVanter. Marissa graduated from Beech Grove High School in 2008 where she enjoyed playing basketball and cheerleading. She served her family as a homemaker. She often volunteered for functions and book fairs at her daughter's school.

Marissa's hobbies included crafts, camping and styling hair. She loved being a mom, cooking, going to amusement parks and festivals and planning parties. Additionally she enjoyed dancing gardening, listening to country music, attending concerts, traveling to the Smokey Mountains, and spending holidays with her family, particularly Christmas, Halloween and the Fourth of July. Marissa's proudest moments were serving as a "Dance Mom" for her daughter, Jayla, at Dance Connection in Indianapolis. She loved watching her daughter shine in every performance.

Marissa is survived by her beloved daughter, Jayla Hoskins; mother, LaVonda Temple; father, John Francis VanDeVanter, Sr.; brother, John Francis VanDeVanter, Jr.; grandmothers, Kay Thomas and Ruth VanDeVanter; aunt, Arlynda Kinder and her husband, Harry; uncles: Clay Temple and his wife, Rhonda, Ronald Thomas and his wife, Ruthie and Greg Thomas and his wife, Ann Marie; cousins: Angela Rodriguez, Amber Temple, Whitney Howell, Kara Toothman and her husband, Tommy, Heather McLeish, Nicole Holeman, Megan Morgan and her companion, Mike Morris, Jordan Mujica, Christiana Mujica, Ivan Caldera, Julian Caldera, Maali Morris, Milynn Morris, Michael Morris, Kade Toothman, Raina Temple, McKenzie Holman, Madison Holman; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Ronald Thomas and Raymond VanDeVanter; grandmother, Ramona Arthur; uncle, Roger Temple; and great grandparents, Lewis and Pansy Mink.

Marrisa's family will receive friends Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 11 am – 1 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue., Indianapolis, IN 46227. A celebration of her life will follow at 1 pm with Pastor Danny Thomas officiating. Interment will be conducted privately.
