Maggie Lee Spells

January 10, 1922 — August 30, 2018

Indianapolis - Maggie Lee Spells, 96, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 30, 2018.

Maggie was born January 10, 1922 to the late Mack Wall and Laura Burch of Colia, Mississippi. She was one of eight children; of whom three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. Maggie attended the public-school system of Carrol County, MS.

On December 24, 1938 she was united in marriage to Everett Curtis Spells, Sr. and to that union they had eleven boys and three girls. The family moved to Indianapolis, IN in 1965. Maggie gave her live to Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of Kingsley Terrace Church of Christ before relocating to Southside Church of Christ in Greenville, MS.

Maggie was a faithful wife and mother and did not work outside of the home until all of her children were grown. Maggie enjoyed working as a housekeeper for many families that considered her as their family member.

Maggie was affectionately known as "MiMi" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maggie did not know any strangers and welcomed everyone into her home. Everyone that she met was blessed by her sweet nature and wisdom. Maggie and her twin sister, Mary Lee Spells were two of a kind. There was never a dual moment when they were together. The two of them kept the family laughing and in tears when they were together. Maggie loved her four-legged companion, Missy. Missy was always by her side.

Maggie was a great cook. She never used any recipes or measuring cups. It was a little bit of this or a pinch of that. Cooking was a way that Maggie showed her love to everyone. There was never a holiday or Sunday that she was not cooking a big meal for her family and friends. Everyone loved her sweet potato pies, greens, chicken and dressing, butter rolls and spaghetti and cheese.

While Earth has lost a faithful worker, Heaven gained a sweet angel on Thursday, August 30, 2018 when Maggie Lee Spells went from labor to reward at the age of 96. She was reunited with those that had gone on before her. She will be missed by many, but her memories will live on in the lives of her family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Everett Curtis Spells, Sr; sons, Wille "Pete" Spells, JW Spells, and Johnnie Spells. She leaves to cherish her memory Everett Curtis, Jr, Mary (John) Turentine, Euola (Clifford) Churchill, James "Joe" ( Lisa) , Charles (Elisa), Cecil, Melvin (Carolyn), Roy, Robert Earl, Milton (Jeannie) Spells and Dorothy Benjamin; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephew and other family members.

Mrs. Spells' family will receive friends Saturday, September 8, 2018, from 10 am – 12 pm at Kingsley Terrace Church of Christ, 2031 East 30th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46218. A celebration of her life will follow at 12 pm at the church. A committal service will be conducted at Crown Hill Cemetery.
