Lois Ruth Showecker, age 88 of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, March 28, 2022 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born March 4, 1934 in Indianapolis to Roscoe and Margaret (Brown) Turner. Lois married the love of her life, Charles L. Showecker on February 11, 1950 in Indianapolis and they shared over 33 years of marriage together until his passing in 1983. For over 50 years, Lois worked as an outstanding waitress. She was a member of the local V.F.W. Lois enjoyed being involved in her children's lives helping with their school PTA and PTO and volunteering to help as much as possible. She liked to cook, dance, listen to Christian music, and going to Christmas plays. Lois loved her church, House of Victory and would always pray for her entire family and anybody in need.
She never knew a stranger and would never let anyone go hungry. Lois made everybody she came in contact with feel loved and appreciated. She always knew how to light up a room whenever she entered. Lois loved everyone and she was loved unconditionally by all who knew her. She was known as grandma and grandma 2 by more than just her family members. More than anything, Lois will be remembered as a loving friend, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother.
Lois's legacy includes 8 children, Beverly (husband Curtis) Miller, Maggie (husband Buck) Cranfill, Charles (wife Jana) Showecker, Jr., Jenny (husband William) Estes, Catalina (husband Bob) Watkins, Anna (fiance Stacy) Powell, Debbie (husband Jimmy) Johnson, and Tina (boyfriend Hoy) Showecker; 2 siblings, Jackie Fink and Carol Abrams; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe Turner and Margaret McDougal; husband, Charles L. Showecker; 7 siblings, Helen, Barbara, Patty, Linda, Betty, Mary, and Norma; and a grandson, Charles Showecker, III.
Funeral services celebrating Lois's life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Newcomer Funeral Home in Indianapolis with Pastor John Biddle officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, April 4, 2022 at Newcomer Funeral Home in Indianapolis. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greenwood.
