Leroy Arvine Shockley

Indianapolis - Leroy Arvine Shockley, 91, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018. Leroy was born May 26, 1927 in Indianapolis, to William Houston and Mervin (Moore) Shockley, but spent most of his growing up years in rural Allen County, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Bertha May Shockley; Lerman C. Shockley; Melvin Shockley; Shirley Shockley Neal; Arnold Shockley and Rondal Shockley.
Leroy is survived by his wife Katherine; hildren, David (Laura) Shockley; Linda (Tom) Dewlen and Michael Shockley; grandchildren, Rick (Shaquana) Shockley; Steven Shockley and Laura (Josue') Quirindongo; great-grandchildren, Ricky Shockley; Ely Shockley and Lauren Shockley; siblings, Vernon (Barbara) Shockley and Willow Dean Hugill; and a host of other family and friends.
Leroy married Mary Katherine Martin on June 15, 1946. This year would have marked their 72nd wedding anniversary. Leroy was a US Army veteran, serving at Elmendorf Air Force Base near Anchorage, Alaska during the Korean Conflict.
He worked for the Coca Cola Company in Bowling Green, Kentucky until moving to Indianapolis where he worked for many years for the American Bearing Company, later working for his brother-in-law, Paul, at Hugill Cabinets and finally retiring from Indianapolis Power and Light in 1992.
In the late 1950s Leroy heard the broadcast coming from the Abundant Life Memorial Church, then meeting at 13th and Alabama Streets, he and Katherine visited the church where they both received Christ as Savior. Over the years Leroy served as Sunday school teacher, Sunday school Superintendent, and Royal Ranger leader. In later years, he attended the Eastside Full Gospel Church and East Rawles Church of God. Leroy loved the Lord, loved worshipping the Lord, and until the end of his earthly life, loved telling others about the Lord.
Leroy's family will receive friends Thursday, April 31, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Indianapolis, 925 East Hanna Ave. 46227. A celebration of his life will be conducted Friday, June 1, 2018, at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Concordia Cemetery.
