GREENWOOD – Lela Diggs "Patty" Nickell, 88, passed away at 8:22 AM on Monday, September 19, 2022 at her residence. She was the loving daughter of the late Paul B. and Opal (Lewis) Diggs born on May 29, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Lela graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1951. She started working for Heidelberg Haus in 1982 and retired in 1992. Lela was a member of the Indianapolis Liederkranz.
She was an avid card player and Lela would play you in Rummy or Euchre anytime. Lela adored living in the country and loved collecting knick knacks. She enjoyed spontaneous daytrips, dancing and antiques. Lela was strong and brave while fighting Leukemia.
Lela leaves behind her loving children: Janet Addair, Robert Clark and Diane Clark; her sister, Sue Deno; her grandchildren: Adam Clark, Jeff VanHorn, Damon Clark, Amber Rush, Nathan Clark, Nick Clark, Jewell Tanner and Portia Rhoades; and 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Lela was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Clark and her siblings: Richard Diggs, Betty Mendez, Mary Johnson and Jackie Diggs.
Lela was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9350 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229, on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
