Indianapolis - Leanettra "Sal" Holden, 48, departed this life Sunday, August 14, 2022, after a long battle with lupus. She was born May 28, 1974 in Gary, IN to Anthony Thomas and Barbara Clarence Smiley. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1992. Leanettra was lovingly known as "Sal" a nickname she inherited from her late cousin who couldn't pronounce her name. She received her certification from Gary Area Career Center in Cosmetology. Leanettra also attended Horizon College for Nursing before taking ill. She recently returned to school to complete her degree. Leanettra also holds an Associate Degree in Business.
Sal confessed Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She loved motorcycling, crafting, reading and traveling. It's no shocker that her favorite color was purple. Sal left a mark on any room she entered. She was the life of the party.
Leanettra was preceded in death by her father, James Lane; maternal grandparents, Andrew and Jessie Jones; and paternal grandparents, Leanettra Thomas and Rudolph Thomas. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard Calhoun; children: Anquanika (Ebony) Williams, James Holden, Jeremy Holden and Barbara Holden; stepchildren that were like her own, Saryiah and Zaniah Benard; loving sisters: Catrina (Alfred) Tate, Latasha (Michael) Hamblin and Della Willamson; brother, William "Gator" Jackson; grandchildren: Jamaree Holden, Serenity Holden, Alijah Williams, Amira Holden and Jamari Holden – McDougle; special friends: LaNetta James, Markeisha Kincade, Essences Shawn Jones and Joniel David; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Sal's family will receive friends Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 10 am – 12 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A celebration of her life will follow at 12 pm.
