LaWanda Faith Nicholas

LaWanda Faith (Koglin) Nicholas, Age 95 of Sheridan, Indiana, was called home on February 2, 2025 in Sheridan surround by her family. 

Born on June 27, 1929 in Duluth Minnesota to, Paul H. Koglin and Laura Hope (Slack) Koglin. LaWanda is survived by a sister (Rita Sutherland) and brother (Bruce Koglin), her sons Ernest E (Wife Lori) of Casper WY, and Paul (Wife Patty) of Sheridan, IN grandchildren E. Adam, Aaron, Andrew, Candy, Eric and 12 great grandchildren.

Lawanda was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years Ernest Nicholas (Deceased 10/4/1992).

Lawanda graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth, MN. She continued her education at several institutions earning several degrees including a Master’s Degree in Education. Initially Lawanda taught English at the Fritzlar Bible College in Fritzlar Germany followed by teaching English to primarily migrant children in California. After a period of raising a family followed by several teaching positions concluding in Raymond, MN where she taught Sr. English and was responsible for the Media Center / Library. 

Lawanda was a lover of nature including Trees, Birds, and Dogs. She spent many summers at the family lake cabin and maintained several hobbies. Hobbies included polishing stones (Lake Superior Agates were her favorite), Needle Point, Crocheting, and watching birds. She loved fishing as long as someone would bait her hook and take the fish off. She maintained a garden and fruit trees which allowed her to freeze vegetables, sauces, and make jelly. Flowers were a love of hers to the end raising African Violets and Amaryllises. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday March 15, 2025, at Sheridan Six Points Church located at 1545 West 226th Street in Sheridan, at 4:00 pm; where family and friends are invited to gather from 2:00 pm till time of service.
