Indianapolis - Larry Scott Byers, 78, passed away at 11:39 a.m. on Friday, January 1, 2021 at his residence with his loving granddaughter Helen by his side. He was born to the late Millard S. and Matilda (Swatts) Byers on October 24, 1942 at St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove, Indiana.
Larry graduated from Harry E. Wood High School, class of 1960. He honorably enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 and retired in 1984 due to medical issues. Larry fought in the Vietnam War and received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and a Good Conduct Metal. He received the Army Serviceman's Metal with Palm. Larry enjoyed bowling league when he was younger and liked attending car races. He loved spending time with family and friends. Larry most of all loved his country and his 20 years spent in the Army.
He is survived by his children, Larry S. Byers and his wife Nancy, Adam J. Byers and husband William Johnson and James Mundy; his grandchildren, Robert McCarty, James Sammons, Helen McCarty and Cori Mundy; his sisters, Beverly J. Leffler and Ada Trimmer; and 7 great grandchildren. Larry is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Janice M. Shea and Carrol Harper.
Larry's family will receive friends Tuesday, January 12, 2021, from 10 am - 12 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. Funeral Service will follow at 12 pm. For the health and safety of all guest attending, face masks are required. A Committal Service will follow at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
