Indianapolis - Joseph E. Spearing, 73, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, IN.
Mr. Spearing was born November 20, 1941 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Dr. George L. and Rosanna C. Duffy Spearing. He was a 1959 graduate of The Latin School of Indianapolis, a pre-seminary boys' high school for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis. He continued his education with two years of further instruction at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in St. Meinrad, IN. Mr. Spearing joined the United States Air Force in 1961 and attended the Institute of Far Eastern Languages at Yale University. He went on to serve in the Pacific theater in Air Force intelligence. He was stationed in Tai Pei, China.
After he retired from the Air Force in 1966, Mr. Spearing attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, IN. He graduated in 1971 with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering. He went on to work for several companies including; Toshiba, EIL and Spearing & Associates. He was a member of American Mensa.
Mr. Spearing is survived by his daughter, Janice Sarver; sons, Danny Spearing and Nathan Hathway; grandchildren; and many other family members and devoted friends.
Mr. Spearing's family will receive friends Saturday, March 21, 2015, from 9-11 am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 2905 Carson Avenue in Indianapolis. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 am with Father John Beitens officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Scholarship Fund or St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.
