Indianapolis - John Harry Simpson, 74, a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, departed this life on Monday, March 12, 2018.
John was born April 26, 1943 in Indianapolis to the late Vearl and Eva (Beasley) Simpson. John graduated in 1962 from Southport High School, where he played football and basketball and ran track. After high school he served on active duty in the Indiana National Guard. He worked in the insurance industry for over 50 years. John worked for Commonwealth Insurance, Farm Bureau Insurance and Eire Insurance. He owned and operated his own independent insurance agency for 30 years. He was one of the original members of Resurrection Lutheran Church. John was also a member of the National Rifle Association and an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his cabin in Needham, IN.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Miriam (Sims); parents, Vearl and Eva (Beasley); brothers, Vearl Jr., James and Joseph; and sisters, Mildred Avalos and Marcela Choban. He is survived by his son, Scott Simpson; daughter-in-law, Renee Simpson; grandchildren, Amelie and Baxter Simpson; brother, Robert (Freda) Simpson; and numerous nieces and nephews who considered him the patriarch of the Simpson family.
John's family will receive friends Monday, June 18, 2018, from 6 - 7 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A celebration of his life will follow at 7 pm.
