John David Richards, age 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away at 11:51 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. He was born to the late H. Morgan and Virginia A. (Walrath) Richards on October 25, 1946 in Utica, New York.
John graduated from Utica Free Academy in New York. He was drafted into the United States Army in January of 1966 and served during the Vietnam War. John was honorably discharged in January of 1968. Professionally, he was a tool and dye maker in the manufacturing industry. John was united in marriage on August 19, 1972 to Virginia Gage at Shenedehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park, NY.
He was a sports enthusiast and collected many baseball cards. John loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed conversing, listening to music, going on walks and drinking coffee. John was a member of the America Legion.
He is survived by his loving children, Nancy Ann Richards, Jay Lynn Richards, Jason Michael Richards and Dustyn M. Richards; his siblings, William Richards, Ann Richards, Patricia Ricketts and Denise Richards; and his grandchildren, Marissa A. Williamson, Nina J. Williamson, Nikko A. Williamson, Madison B. Richards, Levi E. Riojas, Christopher C. Riojas and Greysen M. Richards.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Gage) Richards, twin sons and his brother, Scott Richards.
