It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Wilson Lavender, who left this world on March 27, 2025, in Avon, Indiana, at the age of 63. Born on September 5, 1961, in Indianapolis, Indiana, John was a man of many talents and a heart full of generosity.
John was remembered fondly by those who knew him as a very good friend. His sense of humor brought joy and laughter to many, and he had a unique ability to make even ordinary moments feel special. He was a gifted artist, showcasing his talents in sketching and wood burning, and he even designed tattoos that resonated with those who admired his work.
As a devoted father, John's proudest accomplishments were his children: Zachary J. Lavender, Courtney Hudson, and Kayla C. Smith. He found immense joy in their lives, nurturing them with love and support throughout their upbringing. His legacy continues through their children, including Jeffrey Gibson, Kharma Gibson, Serenity Stanley, Tristan Stanley, Jaxson Smith, and Devin Smith, as well as a beloved great-grandchild, Greyson Gibson.
John is survived by his children; his grandchildren; his great-grandchild; and his caring siblings, Charles (Judi) Lavender and Judith A. (William Alig) Lavender, his nephew, Jason D. Mantooth; and his great-niece, Kaitlynne E. Mantooth. He was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Lucius C. Lavender and Myrtle Ruth Lavender, and his sister, Lucia Mulcahy.
Family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing John are invited to gather in remembrance of his life. A visitation will be held on April 3, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
John Wilson Lavender will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain alive in the hearts of his family and friends.
