John Henry Gravely Jr.

John Henry Gravely Jr., a humble and sweet soul, was born on June 17, 1963, in Huntington, West Virginia. With deep sadness, we announce his passing on December 15, 2024, also in Indianapolis. Throughout his life, John was known for his affectionate nature, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his playful sense of humor. He took great pride in his family, 

For the last 18 years, John dedicated himself to his job as a Security Guard at Russell Trailer Repairs. He loved interacting with everyone as he carried out his duties, forming connections and friendships that brought joy to his workdays.

John had a variety of interests that brought joy to his life. He was an avid fan of crime podcasts, enjoyed listening to country music, and loved going to concerts. A huge Elvis fan, he also engaged in researching his Native Heritage, which was an important part of his identity.

John leaves behind four beloved children: Steve (Rachelle) Gravely, Lisa (Erik) Newcomb, Kristin, and John. He was the cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren who brightened his life. John is also survived by his devoted companion, Tammy Dobbs, and his mother, Opal Norman. His siblings, Donald Venatter, Charles Harper, Ron Harper, Sharon Cremeans, Cathy Wilkins, and Nancy Rife, along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Henry Gravely Sr., his nephew, Gary Rife, and  brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws.

A visitation honoring John's life will be held on Friday December 27, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 925 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46227. The funeral service will take place the following day, Saturday December 28, 2024, beginning at 12:00 PM, with the burial to follow at 1:15 PM at 2703 South Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46225.

John Henry Gravely Jr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His warm spirit and gentle kindness touched the lives of many, and his legacy of love and family will continue to resonate within the hearts of those he leaves behind.
