James Herman Tweedy, 75, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born June 5, 1943 in Burkesville, KY to Bedford R. and Lottie (Winchester) Tweedy, James was the youngest of 5 sons. He was an over the road truck driver for most of his life then he worked for Kopetsky Tri-Ax until his retirement.
He loved NASCAR, dirt track, funny car racing as well as camping, fishing, and watching wrestling. He dearly loved his family and many friends. James was a member of Shelbyville Road Church of Christ.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Shirley (Duncan) Tweedy; 6 children: James E., Tammy Ellis, Timothy (Kay), Jamie Goings (Robby), Michele Curtis, Melinda Smith; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
James is preceded in death by parents; brothers: Clifton, Bradley, Dalford, Hildreth; son-in-law: Tony Smith; 2 grandchildren: Zachary Tweedy and Hannah Smith.
Mr. Tweedy's family will receive friends Tuesday, May 21, 2019, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A celebration of his life will follow Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at 10 am at the funeral home with Pastor Ben Vick of the Shelbyville Road Church of Christ officiating. A committal service will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229.
