James Houston Mccormick

INDIANAPOLIS - James Houston McCormick, 79, passed away at 3:45 AM on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at his residence. He was born on March 15, 1944 to the late Bill and Della Mae (Cope) McCormick in Livingston, Tennessee.

After graduating from high school, James honorably served his country in the National Guard of the United States. James was united in marriage on July 30, 1962 to Barbara Ann Lawson in Livingston, Tennessee. Professionally, he worked as a Monument Setter for Thomas Monument for nearly 10 years.

James was sociable and friendly. He attended many “quarter beer night’s” at Line Em Up Saloon, Shelby Street Saloon and 31 Bar & Grill in Indianapolis; always making new friends. James enjoyed watching old western films and dancing in his youth. He loved animals, especially dogs. James cherished his family, most of all his great granddaughters.

James is survived by his loving daughter, Tamara McCormick; granddaughter, Brooke Sanders & her husband Josh; great granddaughters, Ella and Lillie Sanders; sister, June Bilbrey; and nephews, Michael McCormick and Michael Bilbrey. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Ann McCormick; daughter, Rita Shumaker; and sister, Ruth McCormick.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 PM at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 734 North Morgantown Road, Greenwood, Indiana 46142.
