JAMES ALLEN MCCONKEY, 80, passed away on August 8, 2022 in Indianapolis. He was born to Oscar and Lillian McConkey, a delivery truck driver and a homemaker in Terre Haute, IN on August 4, 1942. Jim also known to many as Jimmy, was a mentor at heart and a friend to many.
He was kind and softly spoken, always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones and countless friends.
Jim owned and operated JAMCO Auto Body Shop business for many years. He loved greeting his customers. Jim had much repeat business due to the good work he did but also the kindness he extended to many.
He loved music, beautiful homes – especially the homes on North Meridian – he never missed a chance for a trip down Meridian St to marvel at how beautiful the homes were. He loved cars, art, books, cooking and telling a good joke with always a great punch line.
Jim is survived by his sister, Nancy Collins; niece, Renee Sullivan and her husband, Mike; great niece, Lauren Wyatt; His adopted son, Jason Hendrickson and his wife Amber; his precious grandbabies, Giselle (9), Arieana (7), Elijah (5) and Amara (1). Jason and his family became Jim's family and he loved them dearly as if his own. If I (sister Nancy) could talk to Jim for just a moment, he would tell me he's going to miss his precious grandbabies.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar & Lillian; great nephew, Stevie Wyatt; brother, Albert Wayne; sister-in-law's, Gloria McConkey and Linda Fulwider; brother-in-law Glenn Collins; and several uncles, aunts and cousins
A celebration of life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home 925 E. Hanna Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46227 on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 12pm to 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The American Heart Association.
My prayer today for you, dear one, is not for things but ANGELS ministering ANGELS who walking quietly by your side gently take you by the hand to comfort, guard and guide you always Jim."
