James "Jim" Roy Waters, of Kirklin, a beloved figure in the community, was born on October 20, 1938 to the late Ralph Roy and Gertrude (Wright) Waters in Howard County, Indiana He departed this life on December 22, 2024, in Kirklin, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family, leaving a legacy of kindness and a dedication to his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jim married the love of his life Katherine "Katie" Alice (Faucett) Waters on June 27, 1958, they were at each other sides for over 57 years until her passing on August 10, 2015.
Jim devoted over 30 years of his career to managing at Terhune Grain, where he became a respected member of the agricultural community. Prior to that, he worked at Wallace Grain in Sheridan, gaining admiration and appreciation from his colleagues and customers alike.
A proud graduate of Sheridan High School, Class of 1956, Jim exemplified the values of hard work and integrity that he carried throughout his life. His personality shone brightly; he never met a stranger and was described as a family man who treated everyone with kindness and respect.
Jim held a deep passion for the outdoors, relishing moments spent hunting, fishing, and riding horses. He also loved training coon and rabbit dogs, pursuits that brought him great joy and connection with nature. His participation in Sunday School and Church was a testament to his unwavering faith and the values he instilled in his family.
Among his proudest accomplishments was winning horse races, and he often shared his favorite saying: "It's better to be on top looking down than on the bottom looking up."
He is survived by his children, Terri King of Kirklin, Gary (Tracy) Waters of Colfax, and Kenneth "Kenny" (Kathy) Waters of Kirklin. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren: Aarron (Elisha) King, Adam (Polly) King, Jessica Waters, Amanda Waters, Paige (Brian) Waters, Nicole Sawyer, and Shelby (Taylor) Lite. He was a great grandfather to ten, a role that brought him immense pride and happiness.
Jim is also remembered by his brother Wayne (Judy) Waters and sister Nancy Stuart, along with several nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katherine "Katie" Alice (Faucett) Waters, in 2015, and sisters Barbara Newton and Jayne Wright, who will be remembered in the hearts of those who knew him.
Jim's warmth, unwavering faith, and devotion to family will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit of love and community serves as an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire many.
