Indianapolis - James Edgar "Jim" Butler, 71, passed away at 2:56 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born to the late Fay Smith and Martha Lloyd (Anderson) Butler on June 13, 1949 in Connersville, Indiana.
Jim was inducted into the United States Army in 1975 and served his country in the motor pool in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1977. He was united in marriage on March 15, 1980 to Bobby June Nonn in Greenwood, Indiana. Jim received his Diesel Mechanic certification at Lincoln Tech in 1982. Professionally, Jim was a dispatcher at Affordable Towing & Roadside in Indianapolis, Indiana since July of 2018. He enjoyed camping and fishing. He often watched war, western and horror movies. Jim loved tinkering on older cars, painting miniature figurines and reading mystery novels.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 41 years, Bobby June (Nonn) Butler; his children, Sandy Lynn Butler and her boyfriend Todd Stach, Elizabeth Inman and her husband, Mike, James Butler, Billy Joe Butler and wife Rebecca, Rebecca Fugate and her husband, Orbie, Richard Butler, Ellen Ford and her husband, Roger and Kenneth Aycock and his wife, Angela; his siblings, Nathan Butler, Stephen Butler, Kathleen Butler, Joy Butler and Margaret Sue Butler; his grandchildren: Cole James Aycock, Austin D. Aycock, Ashley E. Aycock, Ali C. Butler, Catalina J. Butler, Lily M. Butler, Isabella R. Butler, Lena M. Fugate, Serenity A. Fugate, Zachary K. Ford, Nathan W. Ford, Caitlin N. Ford, Damian Butler, Tori Butler, Constance Butler, Brysin Butler, Jada Butler, Little Billy Butler, Mercedes Butler, Alexis Stephenson, Savannah Stephenson, Kevin Bond, Stephanie Bond, RJ Inman, Gavin Inman, Connie O'Toole and her husband, Chris, Damian Lynn and his wife, Kersten; his great grandchildren, Zoey Kay Ford, Nevaeh Marie Ford, Kenneth James Ford, Joseph Michael Butler, Skyler O'Toole, Parker Lynn, Jackson Lynn, Kinsley Butler and Baylor Butler.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Billy Joe Butler and sisters, Susie and Joy Butler.
Jim's friends and family may visit from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 925 East Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Nathan Butler officiating. For the health and safety of all guest attending, face masks are required. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial contributions to the Butler family. At the request of the family if you send flowers, plants are preferred not cut flowers.
